Father’s Day

I took this photo first thing in the morning, just after the girls had come into our room, still in their jammies with their hair adorably messy after a long night’s sleep. Today they were a little extra excited to wake up daddy, because it was Father’s Day and they were eager to give him the cards they had made a few days ago. A precious moment with all of them piled up on their daddy, but technically very poorly executed.

I am still struggling with group photos and nailing the focus. I simply suck at it and I cringe every time somebody asks me to take a group photo because I am more than likely not going to get it right. Although I think in situations like these it’s the subject matter that counts more than technical perfection and I’d rather have an out of focus photo of this moment to show off than none at all. I should have probably increased the ISO, stopped down the aperture, and maybe used multi-point AF instead of trying to manually focus in a darkish room, and maybe my little boy would have been less blurry, but it is what it is.

(50mm, ISO 200, f/4.5, 1/160 sec + speedlight bounced off of ceiling)

Fathers day
