My Ride

When my sister was visiting here at my parents’ house last, she brought with this little white ride-on toy and, despite his young age, my baby boy had a lot of fun sitting on it. He also just happened to have the perfect outfit to match the ride and I loved the light where he was playing on it. Perfect photo opportunity!

I liked the photos as they were but I kept on having this nagging feeling that they are not good enough. For some reason they still look like simple snapshots to me. I liked the light, I loved the subject, the ‘locale’ was as good as it gets for a candid outdoor shot of children playing, so why do I think that I need to go overboard in post processing to make these shots seem ok to me? In fact, after going overboard in post with one of them, I may just like it even less than I did it straight off the camera. I think I need to somehow clear my head of what I think a good photograph should look like, but for now, here are two of them – one with only minor edits to colors and the other the one that went through too many edits to count.
