Hippie and B-Girl Shoot

Ok, I realize that it’s a silly name for a blog post, but for once I just couldn’t come up with names for the photos from my last night’s shoot and I’m using the names that my husband blurted out when he saw them.

It was another impromptu shoot where I only had a partial plan on what I was going to do. I had the shirt and the biker shorts which I bought together to use for a shoot of indeterminate nature. Add to that the wig and the boots and the outfit/makeup plan was formed. I wanted to try a one light setup, well, sort of. I had my white background up and with a white background, there is no way around using background lights if you don’t want to end up with a washed-out ugly grey, so technically I had a three light set-up but only one light directly on the subject. I think it worked well for the first shot but the second one would probably have benefited of a fill light above and behind. Thankfully the background light spills a bit, otherwise the second shot would have been too poorly lit to be shown off.

Without further ado, here’s what my husband called the hippie:

(135mm, ISO 100, f/9.0, 1/160 sec + 150ws monolight on 1/3 power with a beauty dish with sock, and two speedlights on 1/4 power on background)

And here’s the B-Girl:

(50mm, ISO 100, f/9.0, 1/160 sec + 150ws monolight on 1/2 power with 12×36 softbox and two speedlights on 1/4 power on background)
