The Getting Out of Bed Ritual

Rather embarrassingly, my girls are a little bit late for school almost every morning, regardless of how early of late we happen to wake up. I can’t blame it all on the kids every time; my own sense of urgency of getting everybody dressed, fed, and into the car is somewhat lower on the days when we actually get up early enough to have plenty of time to get ready, and I’m doing my own share of wasting time on those mornings, but they certainly play a big part in it.

A few days ago when we all got up relatively early, I decided to document the steps that are often involved in just having my middle child get out of bed. It’s a very slow process and somewhat frustrating process, albeit also an adorable one.

This is she, right after opening her eyes.

Step 1 – lying on her back and having a blast staring at me upside down.

Step 2 – Slowly rolling over and sliding off the bed.

Step 3 – Sitting on the floor for a while doing nothing, well, other than hiding her face from the camera, until I realize how late it is and use my serious voice to finally get her moving on with the morning.
