A few weeks ago when I was doing a family shoot for a friend, I had a chance to take some candids of her also. I took this photo after asking her to pose for a shot and she wouldn’t do it unless she had a chance to touch up on her make-up. I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t snap a photo of her while she was putting on lipstick and, as it turns out, this is one of my absolutely favorite shots from that entire day. I think she looks beautiful, very old Hollywoodish. I’m starting to think that my niche in photography is stolen moments – photos of moments when people aren’t necessarily expecting to be photographed. I do like some of my highly planned studio shots as well, but the only time I feel like I manage to capture something real about somebody is times like this, when they least expect it.
