There are very few photos from the past decade of my husband and I together. He is a bit self-conscious about having gained some weight, and he does not like looking at photos of himself, and I am always the one behind the camera. I’ve asked him to let me take a photo of the two of us together ever since I started taking photography more seriously 3-4 years ago to no avail.
Yesterday was my “create a Christmas card for the year” day and I managed to convince him to be a small part of it. I won’t be revealing the design of the card until Christmas, but I can say that it was a composite on one of those Fantasy Backgrounds Store images, just like my Halloween photo was, and I used the below image in the composite.
Back to the portrait though. My husband was actually very happy at the end to have been talked into being on the photo with me. When I asked him whether he now regrets refusing to do this all those years, his response was that no, he does not, because he trusts that now I am good enough to make him look his best on a photo, which he wasn’t so sure of before. It’s sort of like a compliment and a slap in the face at the same time, but I take what I can get. Next step – convincing him to have a kind of a whole family photo taken the way I’ve been wanting it to do for years.
